Our Story

‘Manaaki whenua, manaaki tangata, haere whakamua’
‘Care for the land, care for people, go forward’

Home is at the heart of Whenua Honey. But it’s not just about where we live - even if we do live in one of the most stunning, untouched areas of New Zealand! Home is also about our connection to whanau (family) and whakapapa (ancestry). This area is our Tūrangawaewae - our ‘place to stand’. And that’s just what we do at Whenua Honey - we stand tall as a proudly 100% Māori-owned company, and we keep our feet firmly on the ground!

Our humble approach focuses on quality over quantity – we want to be the best, not the biggest. We craft our hives from recycled native timber and drive from sunrise to sunset, placing them all over the East Cape. Then we let nature do the rest. Our honey reflects the land in which it is created – wild, pure and pesticide free.

The Whenua Honey mission is sustainability, not just for the whenua (land) itself, but for the people who call it home. We work closely with our whānau,  indigenous Māori landowners, who continue to care for the land of their ancestors. Together, we act as kaitiaki (guardians), to preserve this special place for generations to come.

These unique connections and relationships are what we value the most and it’s the whenua to which we all belong.  Now we want to share our taonga (treasures) with you - Whenua Honey- arohanui (much love) from our whanau to yours.
