ACC-funded Rongoā Māori support for eligible clients with accepted ACC claims for various injuries and conditions.
Services include mirimiri, rongoā rākau, karakia, pure, and holistic healing practices grounded in tikanga Māori.
Maternal Birth Injury Specialist Support (PAT274)
Dedicated ACC-funded Rongoā Māori service for māmā who have experienced physical injuries during labour or delivery, delivered in accordance with ACC Maternal Birth Injury service schedules.

Whenua Healing provides ACC-funded Rongoā Māori support for clients with accepted ACC claims for various injuries and conditions.

Clients with an active ACC claim for injuries or conditions that may benefit from traditional Māori healing practices.
How to access ACC-funded Rongoā Māori services
Step 1: Contact ACC
Contact ACC to request approval for Rongoā Māori services.

Step 2: Provide Whenua Healing details
When contacting ACC, provide:
- Your ACC claim number
- Whenua Healing, Vendor ID: VBL656
- For maternal birth injuries, also provide Provider ID: PAT274
Step 3: Referral & booking
Once ACC approves your request, you or your health professional can refer directly to Whenua Healing. We will respond within two business days and arrange your appointment.

- Self-referral by the client
- General Practitioners
- Physiotherapists
- Nurses
- Other rehabilitation providers
- ACC Case Managers/Navigators
Maternal Birth Injury – Rongoā Māori
Referrals & Support
This section provides information for health professionals and māmā seeking ACC-funded Rongoā Māori support following a maternal birth injury.
Who this service is for
This service is for māmā who have experienced a physical injury during labour or delivery and have an accepted ACC Maternal Birth Injury claim.
Maternal birth injuries may include (not exhaustive):
- 3rd or 4th degree perineal tears
- Obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASI)
- Vaginal or cervical tearing
- Pelvic floor muscle damage
- Birth-related nerve injury
- Birth-related musculoskeletal injury (pelvic girdle, coccyx)
- Internal soft tissue injury sustained during childbirth
ACC does not fund Rongoā Māori services for non-injury related or pre-existing conditions.
ACC service codes used by Whenua Healing
(Maternal Birth Injury pathway only)
RS01 – Individual Rongoā Māori Support
Used for 1:1 injury-related healing and may include:
- Whakawhānaungatanga
- Whitiwhiti kōrero
- Mirimiri / maimoatanga
- Hōmiri
RS02 – Wānanga
Group Rongoā Māori sessions (maximum 8 participants) where shared healing is appropriate.
RS03 – Telehealth
Phone or video-based Rongoā Māori consultations (maximum 8 hours per client).
RS04 – Rongoā Māori Assessment (ACC8427)
Assessment, documentation of progress, and requests for additional services.
Important notes for referrers and clients
- Clients may self-refer or be referred by health professionals or ACC
- RS01, RS02, and RS03 cannot be invoiced concurrently
- Services must relate directly to the covered maternal birth injury
- Whenua Healing can support clients through the ACC cover process if required

- Midwives / Lead Maternity Care (LMC)
- General Practitioners
- Nurses
- Physiotherapists
- Other rehabilitation providers
- ACC
- Self-referral by the client
Once a referral is received, Whenua Healing will respond with acceptance or decline within two business days.
If accepted, the client will be contacted as soon as practicable.
