He aha te tikanga? — The rongōā Māori healing system

In Te Ao Māori, healing is not transactional — it is relational. Each product in this trio honours a different stage of the body’s return to mauri ora (vital wellbeing). Used together, they form a complete rongōā Māori wound care system rooted in the same land, the same whakapapa, for generations.

  • UMF 25+ Mānuka Honey (MGO 1200+) — creates a moist healing environment, inhibits bacterial growth and actively supports tissue regeneration. The highest therapeutic grade of Mānuka honey. He rongōā nō Rongo-mā-Tāne.
  • Mānuka Oil 10ml — rich in beta-triketones, nature’s most potent natural antimicrobial. Powerfully antifungal and antibacterial. Wild-harvested and GC/FID tested. He taonga nō Tāne Mahuta.
  • Mānuka Hydrosol 100ml — wai ora, living healing water. The gentle first step — cleanse, calm inflammation, and prepare the skin. He wai nō Tangaroa.

Ngā tikanga — The 3-step healing ritual

Tahi — Cleanse with Mānuka Hydrosol
Mist gently over the wound or affected area. The hydrosol cleanses, reduces inflammation and prepares the skin to receive healing. Wai ora — living healing water, the gift of Tangaroa, atua of the sea and all waters.

Rua — Protect with Mānuka Oil
Apply 1–2 drops directly or diluted with a carrier oil. Nā Tāne Mahuta — the antimicrobial defence of the forest. Wild-grown, steam-distilled, GC/FID tested for potency and purity.

Toru — Heal with UMF 25+ Honey
Apply a small amount over the wound. At MGO 1200+ this honey supports deep tissue repair. Nā Rongo-mā-Tāne — the atua of healing and cultivated plants. A little goes a long way.

He aha ngā painga? — Traditionally valued for

  • Wound care and skin healing — rongōā kiri
  • Cuts, burns and abrasions
  • Eczema, psoriasis and fungal skin conditions
  • Scar tissue support
  • Anti-inflammatory skin care
  • Daily wellness and immune support — hauora

Te Ao Māori — the spiritual foundation

This bundle is grounded in Te Ao Māori — the Māori worldview — and the teachings of Reverend Māori Marsden, who taught that mauri (the life force seeded by Io, the Supreme Being) pulses through every living thing. The GC/FID laboratory tests confirm the compounds. Marsden’s framework explains why they heal.

Each product in this bundle is held by a different atua (spiritual guardian):

  • Ranginui — atua of the sky and light. Activates the volatile healing compounds in the oil through warmth and sunlight.
  • Papatūānuku — earth mother. Her soils, free from chemicals for generations, nourish the Mānuka with deep purity and mauri.
  • Tāne Mahuta — guardian of the forest. Protects the Mānuka tree and blesses every harvest with his mana.
  • Tangaroa — atua of the sea and all waters. The hydrosol is wai ora — living healing water — under his kaitiakitanga.
  • Rongo-mā-Tāne — atua of healing and peace. Blesses every act of rongōā Māori, including the use of this medicine.
  • Tūmatauenga — atua of human craft and endeavour. Governs the steam distillation process that draws the healing essence from the plant.

Ko te mauri te putake o te ora.

Mauri is the foundation of all wellbeing.

Our Kōrero

Whenua Honey has been built on the back of our community, whānau, and friends.

We work closely with our Māori landowners, who continue to occupy the land of their ancestors. These unique connections and relationships are what we value the most.
